About Our Farm

Martha's Gardens is a family farm located in Newcastle California.  Tom and Cindy Fossum own and operate Martha’s Gardens with help from their grown children and grandchildren.  We specialize in ornamental flowers, vegetables, fruit and free-range eggs.  The farm has been in Tom's family for over 58 years and we take great pride in sharing our story and bounty with our customers.  Both of our families were farmers and it has been our passion to continue that tradition.

Martha’s Gardens is six acres of rich Placer soil in the bottom of a small valley along Brennans Road in Newcastle.  After the death of Tom’s parents, the property fell into disrepair so in 2009 we made the decision to move back to the farm to bring the farm back to life.  We work as a team with Cindy providing the green thumb and creativity and Tom the technical know-how to bring her vision to reality.  This has worked to transform the property into a series of 21 display gardens surrounding production gardens for the ornamental flowers and fresh vegetables we grow and sell.

Martha's Gardens is a great place to get a beautiful bouquet of fresh cut flowers for those special occasions or just for everyday enjoyment. We also are a wonderful place to pick up fresh fruits and vegetables for your family sold in our Veggie Cart. Martha's Gardens also sells a large variety of succulents sold in our Flower/Plant Cart.  We also sell popcorn grown on the property and make and sell homemade baked goods, jams and jellies and farm raised eggs from our Farm Store.

Our Veggie and Flower/Plant Carts are open seven days a week from dawn to dusk.  The Gardens are open for tours on Saturday’s or by appointment during the growing season, which runs from March to November.  The Farm Stand is open when the Gardens are open for tours so stop by the stand to see what is currently in stock.  We are always happy to give visitors guided tours of the farm and gardens.  Visit the gardens for a relaxing experience or to get ideas.  We are great believers in reuse and you will find a number of items in the gardens that have been used previously for other purposes.  We enjoy sharing our family’s story and the farm with visitors.

We have truly found our passion and calling and enjoy sharing our farm with visitors. Martha’s Gardens is centrally located is the rich agricultural region of Placer County with numerous small wineries, breweries, farms and ranches for visitors to explore and visit.
